SY Maralyn — Lagoon 42, Thailand Cruising the Andaman Sea aboard a Lagoon 42 makes a particular kind of sense: shallow draft, easy motion, and enough deck space that nobody has to negotiate for a spot in the shade. Launched in 2019 in the four-cabin layout, Maralyn suits one or two families, or a group of friends who want to island-hop between the limestone stacks of Phang Nga and push a little farther when the wind cooperates. The hull lines come from VPLP Design, the French naval architects better known for their racing multihulls, with exterior styling by Patrick Le Quément. The result is a catamaran that looks fast standing still and, more usefully, works well underway. The deck layout reflects that thinking: wide transoms for stepping aboard from a dock or the tender, and just two low steps up to a single-level cockpit — small details that matter when you are moving between swim, lunch and sundowner a dozen times a day. The cockpit is genuinely liveable. A dinette to starboard seats eight for dinner under cover, a lounge to port suits two for a quieter hour, and steps lead up to the coachroof and its integrated sun pad for the full horizon. Forward of that, a three-panel glass door slides open to bring the saloon and cockpit onto one continuous level. The L-shaped settee runs athwartships and doubles as the seat for the outboard-facing navigation station. The galley is U-shaped and split across the beam: three-burner Eno stove and sink to starboard, refrigeration to port. Accommodation is arranged over four cabins, each with a double island bed and en-suite bathroom, for a total of eight guests. The symmetry is the point here — no cabin is the consolation prize. For those who like to take the wheel, the raised helm to port is one of this model's better features. Sightlines forward are clear, conversation with the cockpit is easy, and there is room for two to work side by side — one steering, one on the lines. Everything falls within reach of the Goïot wheel, from the B&G multifunction display to the Spinlock clutches, so the yacht can be sailed shorthanded when conditions invite it.
