Ned 70 — Vripack Some yachts begin with a spec sheet. This one began with a sailor. In 2010, an experienced Dutch owner — a man who had raced and cruised singlehanded on sailing yachts from 40 to 60 feet — walked into Vripack's Netherlands studio with an unusual request. He wanted a motor yacht. Not a compromise, but a purpose-built one: a vessel he could share with a growing family, and one that could take the ground gracefully on a falling tide. What came out of that conversation is the Ned 70, a long-range motor yacht built around low displacement/length principles. The numbers behind that philosophy are the interesting part: an exceptional length-to-beam ratio, a lean structure, a shallow draft, and a hull shaped to cruise easily at semi-displacement speeds. The slender form cuts resistance rather than fighting it, which means lower fuel consumption, less pitching in a seaway, and a noticeably steadier ride than the profile might suggest. Careful material selection and modern construction methods keep the weight down without giving anything away in capability. From the outside, the Ned 70 reads low and unhurried — clean lines, no theatre, the kind of silhouette that comes from function rather than fashion. It is a design that rewards a second look. The real measure of the boat, though, is how it is actually used. Her owner has run her from Amsterdam to Norway and back over a long weekend — an itinerary that says more about range, efficiency and ease of handling than any brochure claim could. That same capability now translates to the Mediterranean, where the Balearics reward a yacht that can slip into shallow anchorages others must admire from a distance. Formentera's sandbanks, the quieter corners of Menorca, the calas that empty out after the day boats leave: this is the cruising ground the Ned 70 was, almost accidentally, made for. On board, a professional crew handles the seamanship, the logistics and the rhythm of the day, leaving you to decide only how far you'd like to go before dinner.
