# Sun Daze — Bali 5.4 Cruising the Caribbean Leewards and the British Virgin Islands Some catamarans borrow the language of a house. The Bali 5.4 actually speaks it. Named Multihull of the Year and launched into the market in 2019 as a genuine rethink of how space works aboard a sailing yacht, the model earned its reputation on circulation and openness rather than on the usual arithmetic of length and beam. Aboard, the impression is closer to a well-appointed floating residence than to a boat — and that is entirely deliberate. ## The garage door The centrepiece is the tilting aft bulkhead — the "Bali garage door" — which simply disappears upward, dissolving the boundary between saloon and cockpit. What remains is an uninterrupted view astern and a single continuous living space that can be laid for dinner indoors, outdoors, or somewhere agreeably between the two. In the Caribbean, where the trade winds are a constant, the practical effect is just as valuable as the visual one: air moves through the yacht without effort. ## Deck spaces Forward, the solid foredeck replaces the traditional trampolines with a broad cushioned lounge — a proper sunbathing platform rather than a compromise. A full-height door leads directly from there into the saloon, so movement through the yacht never requires a detour along the side decks. Up on the flybridge, a seating area handles sundowners and the long Caribbean evenings, with a second sunbathing space alongside it and the best sightlines aboard for island-watching. ## Aboard Sun Daze is a 2023 build, and the specification reflects an owner who paid attention after delivery as well as before it. Teak, hard top, hydraulic lift, solar panels, air conditioning, water maker, ice maker and a full-sized refrigerator cover the technical ground. The finishing touches carry the same care: fine linens, pillows and throws, proper wine glasses, serving pieces and flatware. The galley is equipped with the appliances and accessories a chef needs to work seriously rather than improvise, supporting a fully customisable menu and a bar stocked to guest preference. Coffee and espresso machine, television in the saloon, Fusion 3 Bluetooth sound system, board and card games — and Caribbean-made toiletries that are eco-friendly and reef safe, which in these waters is more than a gesture. ## Crew The crew works to the same standard as the yacht: menus built around your preferences, the bar provisioned to taste, and the kind of quiet anticipation that lets a charter week find its own rhythm. Rendezvous scuba diving can be arranged. ## In the water Snorkelling gear, underwater scooters, a wakeboard, a stand-up paddle board, a 10 ft floating dock, pool noodles and fishing gear — enough to fill a week of anchorages in the Leewards and the BVI without repeating yourself.
