DRAGON FLY

Cruising ground: Turkey and the Greek Islands. DRAGON FLY is a 39-metre (127ft) gulet launched in 2006 by Karataş Design — a hull shaped for the kind of cruising these waters reward: long, unhurried passages between Turkish bays and Dodecanese anchorages, with the beam and deck space that only a gulet of this scale can offer. She accommodates ten guests across five en-suite cabins. The layout comprises an owner's cabin, two cabins with a double bed, and two cabins with twin beds — a configuration that works as readily for two families sharing as for a group of couples. Detailed bed arrangements are available on request. Under way she makes 10 knots, with 13 knots in reserve — figures that suit the geography rather than fight it. On a coast where the next cove is rarely more than an hour or two away, speed matters far less than the shade of an awning at anchor and the time you have to stay put. A crew of six looks after her: attentive when you want them, invisible when you don't. Their real value shows in the small decisions — which bay will be empty at four in the afternoon, when to move on, where lunch tastes better than it has any right to.
