## L'Hippocampe — Nautor's Swan 100, 30.48m Some sailing yachts are built for show. This one was built to sail, and it shows in the numbers: 10 knots comes easily, and 240 miles in a day is a routine passage rather than a boast. Launched in 2008 at Nautor's Swan's Pietarsaari yard in Finland, L'Hippocampe (ex Varsovie) carries the pedigree that name implies, with exterior lines and interior design by German Frers. She is a modified version of the Swan 100S: the coach roof is raised forward, which adds a run of forward-facing salon windows — daylight and a proper view of the water from inside — and five inches of extra headroom in the engine room, a detail only an owner or an engineer would think to ask for. A comprehensive refit was completed in 2024, and she is in first-rate condition. Accommodation is for eight guests in four cabins: an owner's cabin, a VIP cabin, and two further cabins with twin beds. Detailed bed configuration available on request. Under way, she is a genuinely manageable 100-footer. Sail handling is straightforward, which means the crew spends less time wrestling with the yacht and more time looking after the people on board — and it means guests who want to take a turn on the helm can actually do so, rather than watching from the cockpit. She works both sides of the Atlantic: Italy, the French Riviera, Corsica, Sardinia and Spain in season, and the Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, the Leewards and the Windwards when the trades fill in.
