ARCTIC was launched in 1969 as an ice-class salvage tug, built for work rather than leisure, and spent her first decades earning that reputation. Her second life began when Australian billionaire Kerry Packer commissioned her conversion into what became the world's first true luxury expedition yacht — relaunched in 1994 as the largest converted explorer afloat at the time, and the vessel that effectively created the category. A refit completed in 2025 keeps her current. Industrial bones, refined interiors The conversion was intelligent rather than cosmetic: the ice-class hull and commercial-grade construction were left intact, while the interior volume was reworked into generous living areas with high-quality finishes throughout.
