AMAZON SOLO — 28m Gulet, Turkey Twenty-eight metres of traditional Turkish craftsmanship, launched in 1998 by Coban Denizcilik and brought up to date through a refit completed in 2020. AMAZON SOLO belongs to a lineage of gulets built for the coastline she still cruises: broad in the beam, generous underfoot, and better suited to slow days at anchor than to hurrying anywhere. She cruises at 9 knots, with 12 available when the schedule demands it — which, along this coast, it rarely does. Below, six cabins accommodate twelve guests, each with en-suite facilities. The largest is arranged around a king-size bed; the remaining five are laid out with double beds, an unusually even spread that makes her a natural fit for two or three families travelling together, or a group of couples who would rather not draw straws over who gets the good cabin. A crew of four looks after the yacht and her guests — cooking, navigating, and setting the rhythm of the day, which on a gulet tends to mean a long breakfast, a morning under sail or engine to the next bay, and an afternoon that dissolves somewhere between the shaded aft deck and the water. That is the essential appeal of a gulet along the Turkish coast: the itinerary is a suggestion, the anchorages are numerous, and there is very little reason to stay on board when the sea is that temperature — or to leave the deck when it isn't.
